I am writing to you as a dedicated community advocate to express the urgent need for the construction of a gymnasium at McCutcheon STEAM Elementary School.

McCutcheon currently faces a historic infrastructure gap as one of the few public schools in Chicago without a dedicated gymnasium. For years, our students have been forced to rely on inadequate, makeshift spaces for physical education, indoor recess, and community gatherings. This is not merely an inconvenience; it is a fundamental issue of equity and access.

Furthermore, our lack of a gym is directly tied to a lack of ADA compliance. The proposed gymnasium project includes an elevator that would finally make our main building fully accessible to all our students and families, nearly half of whom are diverse learners.

The McCutcheon community has seen funding for this project allocated and then seemingly lost in the bureaucracy multiple times over the last twenty years.

We urge you to follow through on the district's past commitments and prioritize the funding and construction of the McCutcheon gymnasium. Our students deserve a safe, accessible, and permanent space to learn and thrive.
